Contributing a pair points to help Canada win the greatest international tournament in history including an assist in Game 1 and a goal in Game 2, Frank Mahovlich saw action in 6 of the 8 Canada-Russia Series games in 1972, with the Soviets definitely feeling his large and formidable veteran presence. Hailing from that all-important series, we have this pair of photo-matched gloves worn by Mahovlich during the international affair. CCM made gauntlets in Team Canada's classic red and white colours, CCM logos are found over the inside of each wrist in white along with a "Made in Canada" designation. Displaying with excellent game-use throughout including rubbing to each of the palms with both showing holes of various sizes, the ones on the left palm are far smaller than the ones on the right and are fewer in quantity as well. Also featuring the original laces through the eyelets of each wrist, the exterior of the gloves sport game-wear in the form of numerous dark stick marks, coloured paint transfers and other abrasions while age wear such as fraying around the edges and cracking of the leather is also observed. Signed by Mahovlich over the inside wrist of the left glove with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue, the hockey legend has added an annotation reading "Canada 1972" in matching black marker underneath on the thumb.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-matches, the left glove is matched with Getty Image #145102016 (September 22nd, 1972 vs Soviet Union - 1972 Summit Series Game 5) to the long diagonal black stick mark just above the fingers while the right glove is matched with Getty Image #145101986 (September 22nd, 1972 vs Soviet Union - 1972 Summit Series Game 5) to the black stick marks over the white section between the fingers and thumb that also extend down to the thumb as well.
