Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Etched in the minds of many a hockey fan, the booming voice of announcer and Canadiens public relations director Claude Mouton echoed throughout celebrated Montreal Forum moments. Offered is Mr. Mouton's Stanley Cup ring from the Canadiens’ second of four Cup wins between 1976 and 1979. This beautiful size 11 ring weighs approx 36 grams, with the iconic CH on the face, set in diamonds, surrounded by the raised gold letters spelling out "NHL Champions" on a black background. A raised Stanley Cup, "1977" and "Mouton" adorn one shank, while the other shank features "Club De Hockey Canadien” and “Champions Est-East". Below is "60-8-12" reflecting the team's regular season mark, giving the Canadiens an amazing 132 points for the season which remains a league record. Inside the band of this magnificent bauble is engraved "Josten's 14K", along with Mouton's facsimile autograph. This beautiful ring contains all but two diamonds - one at the top, second from right, and one at the bottom, 5th from right, which have been replaced with zirconias. Moderate to heavier wear from use is visible on the keepsake, with numerous scratches and dings visible over the exterior band and along edges, with a few minor blemishes to the interior band as well, none really affecting the eye appeal of the ring. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
