Hockey Memorabilia Auction - Spring 2008
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/10/2008
This is the second item in Clark Gillies’ enviable personal collection of four straight Stanley Cup champion New York Islanders team photos. This gorgeous, studio-mounted team photo was presented to Gillies by the Islanders. The team’s distinctive Long Island logo is clearly displayed on the Nassau Coliseum’s ice surface in front of the Stanley Cup, playoff MVP Butch Goring’s Conn Smythe Trophy, and the 1980-81 edition of the Islanders that successfully defended its title. After Mike Bossy matched Rocket Richard’s feat of 50 goals in 50 games during the regular season, the Islanders lost only three playoff games en route to winning their second Stanley Cup in a row by defeating the Minnesota North Stars in five games in the finals. Goalie Roland Melanson is one of the few new faces among this talented group. Clark Gillies’ signed letter of authenticity is included with this striking image of one of hockey’s greatest dynasties. Addendum; Oversized team photo is framed up to 22 x 26 inches.
