Precipitating the benefit game that would evolve into the modern NHL All-Star contest, the Ace Bailey injury suffered at the hands of Eddie Shore on Dec 12, 1933 included two fractures to his skull, with two operations necessary. Played on Feb 14, 1934 at Maple Leaf Gardens, the benefit game with proceeds going to the Bailey family featured a team of NHL All-Stars facing Bailey’s Leafs, with the latter defeating the former, 7-3. This stick has been multi-signed by members of the All-Star team from the Ace Bailey benefit game. An especially rare “Hand Made” McNiece & Orchard one-piece “Extra Special” stick, “NHL 1933-34 All-Stars” graphics have been added to the upper shaft along with the “Toronto – Feb 14th 1934” location and date. 9 have signed both sides of the shaft in pencil (the accompanying LOA erroneously states steel-tip fountain pen), including Howie Morenz (fairly dark and easily readable), Eddie Shore (large and fairly dark, somewhat camouflaged over the stick’s graphics), Jimmy Ward, Frank Finnigan, Larry Aurie, Normie Hines, Alan Shields and Bill Cook, with the majority of the signatures a bit light but easily legible. The stick itself shows just age and handling wear, with an LOA from JSA to accompany, and please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
