Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2025
Some lucky fan sitting in this very chair over half a century ago witnessed the Soviets and Team Canada battle to a grinding draw in Game 3 of the famous Summit Series in 1972. We present an original seat from the Winnipeg Arena - the first we have ever offered. Built in 1954 and opening a year later, the Winnipeg Arena was originally the venue for the WHL's Winnipeg Warriors. Noteworthy as the later home of the WHA (1972-1979) and NHL (1979-1996) Winnipeg Jets, the building was also the site of numerous concerts throughout it's history including the Rolling Stones and the Who in the 1960s, Chicago, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult and Kiss in the 1970s, and Van Halen, AC/DC, the Police, Billy Joel and Bob Dylan in the 1980s, just to name a few. The solid wood seat and back rest is painted blue, with "13" stenciled in white to the back rest. The metal sides each have a bracket that fits over, secured by the wooden and metal arm rest when slid over the top. The brackets were originally mounted to pavement in the arena's tiered concrete design. The seat sits flat when opened at ground level, with a base needed to mount the chair for free standing at the proper height. There is expected wear in areas, with just very minor chipping to the paint along the edges of the seat and back rest.
