Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Coaching a young Bobby Orr while the phenom was just a child, Wilfred "Bucko" McDonald spent a decade in the world’s fastest league, making appearances for three of the Original Six clubs including Detroit. The Fergus native would win a trio of Stanley Cup championships, first enjoying back-to-back titles with the Red Wings in 1936 and 1937, later earning a third cup with the Leafs in 1942. This absolutely marvelous 14k gold and diamond ring was presented to McDonald for his status as a 1936 Stanley Cup champion with the Detroit Red Wings. Size 10 with an approx weight of 15 grams, a large diamond sits centered over the tableau, encompassed by “Stanley Cup Champions 1935-36” in raised letters. An enamel Red Wings logo resides over the right shank, while the left features crossed hockey sticks. A hologram and “14k” are stamped to the inner band, with “Bucko McDonald” engraved in attractive script. Originally obtained from the McDonald family, an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
The ring remains in beautiful condition with moderate wear throughout including small scratches over the band, with additional dings and small grooves visible along edges.
