Made to cover the hands of the man that will forever sit alone atop the top of the National Hockey League’s all-time points leader list we have here a pair of professional model Easton GX800R gloves from Gretzky’s early years with the Los Angeles Kings. Gretzky, famously known for wearing Jofa gloves and using Titan sticks in the beginning of his career, switched to Easton gloves and sticks upon trying them out in the summer of 1990 and signed a seven-year endorsement deal with the company shortly thereafter. Offered here, we present this pair of photo-matched gloves worn by "The Great One" during the 1991-92 season in which he resisted 121 points (31 goals and 90 assists) in 74 games played. Easton Air GX9500 models in Los Angeles' black, grey and white colour way, Gretzky identifiers are found over the front of each via Wayne's famed number "99" that has been applied with white coloured numerals. Displaying "Easton" and "Air" identifiers over the backside and wrist of each gauntlet, the gloves are customized to Wayne's liking with extra long cuffs and thicker leather palms. Having had an Easton logo patch sewn into each of the extra long cuffs, the gloves show game-use via marks and abrasions that are present over the outside of each, some rubbing to the leather over the fingers and some rubbing in both palms which is heavier over the right one, caused by the black coloured "Jack the Gripper's" that Wayne always had atop his sticks. Overall in excellent condition with no holes or major flaws to make mention of, the appeal of the already extremely desirable mittens is heightened even further by the fact that they have been photo-matched to an included numerical image taken of Gretzky in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks on either December 5th, 1991 or February 13th, 1991 in Chicago shows the stick mark under the "A" in "Easton" on the wrist of the right glove, the wear to the bottom of the "S" in "Easton" on the wrist of the right glove, the loose black thread that extends into the grey piping at the top of the right glove and numerous unique/loose stitches/threads on the underside cuff of the left glove as well. Having been signed by Gretzky over the wrist cuff of each glove with a bold black ink signature that displays without issue other than some very minor fading from age, these hobby treasures come accompanied by an LOA from noted Gretzky collector, Joe Esposito.
