Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Arguably the greatest season ever witnessed by the NHL, the 1985-86 campaign would be especially memorable for both Wayne Gretzky and the record books, with the phenom registering an improbable 215 points including 163 assists along with an additional 19 points during the post-season. We have a signed stick used by the legend during his remarkable Art Ross and Hart Memorial-winning season of 1985-86. A familiar Titan TPM 2020, “W. Gretzky” appears stamped-on, with “99” handwritten in blue marker with added “p”, designating the lumber as a practice-used example. Additional stamped codes present include a date code of “5 Mar 1986” along the underside along with a serial code of “1-002” near the heel section. Hailing from a legendary season, documents will accompany this important Gretzky gamer.
With the original gauze-style wrap over the handle intact, the blade tape has been removed so that Wayne could add a large and flowing black marker signature including “Best Wishes” across the front side. Nice use is exhibited on the stick, with wear to the underside of the blade along with numerous marks including both red and blue paint transfer to the lower shaft.
