Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

Named an officer of the Order of Canada before the beginning of the 1984-85 NHL season, Wayne Gretzky would see action in each and every regular-season contest that year and top the 200-point plateau for a third time, with his 47 playoff points the best total of his unrivaled career. This signed stick was used by The Great One during his Art Ross, Hart Memorial, Conn Smythe and Lester B. Pearson Trophy-winning season of 1984-85. Wayne’s preferred Titan TPM2020 model with “W. Gretzky” stamped to the upper shaft, a date code of “Oct 17 1984” is visible on the underside, with most of the original black tape on the blade (with baby powder residue) and white-over-black on the handle intact (with “99” handwritten). A few strands of blade tape were removed from the center – with a strand now loose – with Wayne placing a nice black marker signature between the tape that remains on each side.
There is also a pencil notation of “WG-1” on the bottom edge of the heel, with this common for Gretzky gamers. Nice game-use is exhibited, with wear to the blade including the underside, with a few marks at the base of the shaft. We should also note that the tape over the knob has become somewhat frayed and is heavily worn.
