Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Turning the entire hockey world upside down while obliterating the record books and producing numbers previously thought impossible, Wayne Gretzky would first reach the 125-assist total in 1982-83 while earning 196 points; in just his fourth NHL season. The Great One would garner considerable accolades including the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and Lester B. Pearson Awards while centering the First Team All-Stars. This skate was used by the icon during the 1982-83 NHL season, and it has been photo-matched to the 1983 NHL All-Star Game! Wayne’s preferred Daoust 301 model with intact lacing and trademark blue Perfecta blade holder, heavy rubbing to the leather over numerous sections of the boot from prolonged use is visible along with cuts over the toe section, with heavy use again exhibited on the blade holder which includes marks and cuts. The white sole of the boot appears to have been changed at some point, giving further evidence to the desirable skate’s lengthy use. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany this historic Wayne Gretzky keepsake, and please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
An image from the 1983 NHL All-Star Game has been matched to the distinctive pattern of tar applied to the outside edge of the front of the right boot, from the toe through the beginning of the white “99” below the lace holes.
