Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Finally hanging up the skates on a storied 20-year National Hockey League career that saw him fully cement himself as the best player the game of hockey had ever seen, Wayne Gretzky would say goodbye to a packed house at Madison Square Garden on April 18th, 1999 by recording his 2,857th and final point, an assist in a 2-1 Rangers overtime loss. Offered here, is this Wayne Gretzky signed framed display picturing “The Great One” taking off his skates for the final time. Measuring approx. 10” x 12 ½” with full dimensions measuring out to 16 ¼” x 19”, Wayne has signed the lower front with a large gold ink signature that displays perfectly and has added the date of his final contest, 4/18/99, in matching gold ink alongside the autograph. Housed in a simple black frame that shows just very light wear from age and display, the image is matted under a blue coloured matte. Additionally, a personalized message and signature penned by Wayne’s father, Walter Gretzky, to our consignor appears over the reverse of the piece, done in blue marker and displaying well with just light wear from age being exhibited.
