Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

A once thought of as unbreakable record held by his boyhood idol, Gordie Howe, “The Great One”, Wayne Gretzky, saw himself become the NHL’s all-time leader for goals scored after his mark against Kirk McLean and the Vancouver Canucks at 14:47 of the 2nd period in Los Angeles on March 23rd, 1994. Honoured a week later on March 30th with a shiny black Rolls Royce in a pre-game ceremony, the Kings also unveiled this banner commemorating the record breaking occasion that hung in the Fabulous Forum for all to see. Proudly offered here, is the banner that hung in the Forum in honour of Gretzky’s 802nd career goal. Measuring a massive 33” x 90”, the one sided tribute is made of a satin-like cloth material and features "Gretzky", "99" and the NHL logo shield in the same material all-sewn on with the words "All Time Goal Scorer, Wayne Gretzky, March 23, 1994" screened on in black. Overall, in excellent condition, some light discoloring and soiling is observed in a few places. The piece was originally obtained by a private collector directly from the Forum.
