Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
With the immediate impact felt throughout the hockey world as he imposed his will during his first NHL season, Wayne Gretzky would register an amazing 137 points during his inaugural campaign in 1979-80, with the Hart Memorial Trophy earned as the NHL’s MVP. Originating from the archives of the Toronto Sun, we have a wonderful collection of 68 vintage 35mm slides featuring The Great One, with just a pair in colour, the rest, black and white. Great game-action images abound, and when considering their early vintage – Gretzky’s very first NHL season – the historical importance of each slide is measurable. Each has a number written in pencil, with many also having “79-80”. The majority remain in excellent condition, with just light wear from age/storage. An additional 10 Oilers' slides from that season that don’t feature Gretzky will also be included.
