Enjoying a run of twenty-five seasons in the PCHL and WHL, the Vancouver Canucks, who would eventually become a National Hockey League franchise for the beginning of the 1970-71 season, would win a total of six (6) championships between 1945 and 1970 while five (5) former Canucks including Johnny Bower, Allan Stanley, Gump Worsley, Andy Bathgate and Tony Esposito would go on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Winning back-to-back championships in their final two WHL seasons of 1968-69 and 1969-70, offered here, and hailing from the era of the early-to-mid-1950s, we present this WHL Vancouver Canucks jersey. Void of any labeling, the classic tie-neck style garment made of an all wool construction measures out to roughly a size "40" in its present state. Decorated with "Canucks" arched across the chest in dual layer red-over-blue felt letters, the number "5" is found affixed underneath as well on the reverse while the distinguished captain's "C" has been added over the left breast. A true surviving relic of a bygone era that produced some of the greatest hockey the game, its players and its fans has ever seen, the jersey shows numerous large holes throughout the sleeves with smaller ones dotted throughout the body and sleeve cuffs as well. Also sporting stains to the sleeves, fading to the shoulders, light colour bleed of the red into the white and damage to the felt numbers on both the front and reverse, a lone team repair is present on the reverse at the bottom of the "5". With the addition of the captain's "C" on the front only increasing the desirability of the piece, research shows that the jersey dates between the 1952-53 and 1955-56 seasons of play with Vancouver sporting legends Hugh Currie and Jack Lancien both wearing the number "5" with the captaincy during this time period (Currie in 1952-53 and 1955-56 and Lancien in 1953-54 and 1954-55).
