Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2021
The only league to legitimately challenge the supremacy of the NHL throughout it’s existence, the World Hockey Association sought to capitalize on the numerous American and Canadian cities that weren’t served by the NHL, with the original twelve WHA franchises to include the Cleveland Crusaders, New England Whalers, New York Raiders, Ottawa Nationals, Philadelphia Blazers and Quebec Nordiques in the East, and the Winnipeg Jets, Alberta Oilers, Chicago Cougars, Houston Aeros, Los Angeles Sharks and Minnesota Fighting Saints making up the West. We have a great collection of WHA memorabilia totaling 14 items, which includes a 1973-74 50-card Quaker Oats set that features Bobby Hull. Highlighted by a first home game program for the Winnipeg Jets (Oct 15, 1972 vs Alberta), included, we have a program for the third annual WHA All-Star Game (Jan 21, 1975), a 1972-73 Los Angeles Blades team photo (8” x 10”), a Vancouver Blazers illustrated guide from 1974-75, a large Blazers crest (7” x 8 ½”) and small patch (3” x 4”), additional small patches for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Houston Aeros and New York Raiders, Michigan Stags (1974-75), Phoenix Roadrunners (1978-79) and Houston Aeros (1977-78) schedules and a Vancouver Blazers puck. The 50-card set includes 10 5-card panels, with cards still attached accordion style, with the group showing light handling wear. The Jets program shows moderate wear with the center line-up detached but present, with light wear to the remaining items.
