Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Arguably the deciding factor in a number of the historic tilts contested by Canadian and Soviet hockey powerhouses at the 1972 Summit Series, Vladislav Tretiak remains the most famous and venerated non-Canadian goaltender in history, all without playing a single contest in the NHL. This lot offers a Red Army CSKA Moscow jersey signed by the legendary keeper, accompanied by a 1993 limited-edition collectors plate by artist Glen Green signed by Tretiak, Summit Series hero Paul Henderson and the artist. The jersey has Russian labeling with “52” sizing, with all identifiers including the team crest and numbers sublimated. Tretiak has signed the reverse “2” in black marker, with the signature a bit light, most likely from a weak writing instrument. The 10” collectors plate features wonderful Summit Series artwork, with all three signing in gold, with the limited-edition number of “44 AP (artist proof)/ 1,972” appearing over the reverse. The plate has been set within a 14 ½” x 14 ½” frame (removable), with no issues for the signatures. As an added bonus, a Tretiak Summit Series CCCP replica jersey is also included (unsigned), along with a second Tretiak collectors plate (unsigned), with this 9 ½” example with gorgeous images produced in Russia with Cyrillic text over the reverse.
