Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Still heavily collected despite exiting the city over 15 years ago, the Montreal Expos began life as the first MLB team to be situated outside the US, with a number of past HOF members spending time in Quebec, including Gary Carter, Andres Dawson and Tim Raines. This lot offers a wonderful collection of Expos material hailing from throughout the club’s 35-years existence, highlighted by a program issued for the very first Expos contest. Included, we have 13 programs from the first couple Expos seasons which includes the inaugural match example, with 7 of the programs hailing from the first season, in 1969 (the majority show light handling/age wear, with a few having cover tears along the spine. The first year program shows just light wear, with the year handwritten on each program). This is followed by 38 Expos postcards from assorted years including Stoneham, Hunt, Singleton, Fairly and others (light to moderate wear to the group), 43 Expos schedules including early example from 1974, 4 tickets/stubs (1970, 1976-2, 1987), 9 glasses including Rose, Raines, Lea, Carter, Dawson (2), Gullickson, Wallach and Steve Rogers (light wear to the group, with no cracks), 4 books, a trio of modern bobble heads including a larger vintage ceramic example, a ceramic Youppi figurine from 1981 (9”), an Expos Youppi plastic figurine colletion complete in it’s original box from 1986, and a high-grade Expos “Super Baseball” board game from 1979. Also included, there a small group of 5 Montreal baseball programs including a pair for the Royals (1944 and 1946 – lower grade), a pair for the Braves (1950 and 1953 – light wear), and a single program for the Montreal Baseball Club from 1939 (International League, moderate wear). There is also a wonderful limited-edition Olympic Stadium model, made in Italy in 1976, with engraved text and hallmarks over the underside. Exhibiting heavy wear and tarnish throughout, the original display case is also included (10” x 10” x 5” with damage to the underside), an early Expos photo pack of 13 (most display well but have lower technical grades), a group of Provigo Expos cards in 28 2-card strips (light wear, with a “roll” to the group), a Ron Fairly Expos pin, a small Expos autograph book from Metro (4 ½” x 6 ½”) and more!
