Especially popular in the province of Quebec throughout the first half of the 20th century, Frontenac Breweries and their iconic Blue Label ale were purchased by Canadian Breweries in 1951, with that company later renamed Carling O’Keefe in 1969 before merging with Molsons. This lot offers a neat collection of breweriana featuring the Frontenac company, and includes a circa-1920s/30s lithographed advertising sign (French-language, 18” x 22”), four serving trays (12” to 13”) including one with litho on tin (1920s), the other three porcelain (1940s), two vintage bottles, a vintage Frontenac Special 1 litre stoneware beer jug, two decks of playing cards, an enamel on metal ashtray (6”), a small dice game stored in a cork box with advertising, an illustrated wooden brush with backing and more!
First, the litho exhibits surface wear with a few large creases along with edge tears, with the 1920s litho on tin tray showing very minor staining/discolouratuion along with a few small scratches, while the three porcelain trays show light to moderate wear, with a pair having wear/damage to the rim. Next, the vintage bottles are both for Blue Label beer, with one bottle having heavy wear to the label (8”), while the second bottle shows just light wear (10 ½”). This is followed by the stoneware mug (10”), with the graphics over the front and lid perfect, with the rubber gasket within the inner lid deteriorating. The remaining items show wear commensurate with their former use, with no obtrusive damage.
