Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2016
Introduced just over half a century ago, the Conn Smythe Trophy is fairly unique in sport, in that it’s awarded to the MVP of the entire postseason, as opposed to just the championship series or finals. This Conn Smythe Trophy is a vintage unawarded example. Exquisitely detailed and majestic in appearance, the 13” trophy features a metal replica of MLG mounted to a three tier finished wooden base, with large imposing maple leaf overshadowing. A plaque on the base’s top tier details the trophies particulars, with green felt adhered to the underside. "Petersen E.P.O.C." appears engraved on the back of the maple leaf, with wear and tarnish present, especially along the top section of the wooden base. The great Jean Beliveau was the first winner of this prestigious award.
