Regarded as one of the most exciting Stanley Cup Finals in the history of the game, the 1951 battle between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens saw the Leafs win the Cup in five games with all five going to overtime and a total of fourteen (14) Hall of Famers partaking. Offered here, is this Toronto Maple Leafs framed display titled “The Legend of Bill Barilko” that has been signed by a total of ten (10) players from both the Maple Leafs and Canadiens that competed in that 1951 series. Displaying both a 16” x 20” image of Barilko’s Cup clinching goal and an 11” x 14” photo of the man himself, information plaques for the title of the piece as well as for information pertaining to the goal and Bashing Bill’s tragic death sit at the right side and bottom of the display. Triple matted and housed in a simple black frame that shows light wear to the corners and edges with no glass over the front that measures out to full dimensions of 40 ½” x 28 ½”, those that have signed the piece include HOFers Ted Kennedy, Howie Meeker, Butch Bouchard, Harry Watson and Fern Flaman as well as Gerry McNeil on the photo of the goal while Cal Gardner has signed a Leafs puck that has been mounted above. Also featuring signed modern reprint cards of Montreal HOFers Maurice Richard and Tom Johnson along the bottom, a custom card of Bariko featuring a cut signature of his is found along the bottom middle as well. All signed in either blue or silver marker ink with the exception of the Barilko signature (blue fountain pen that displays without issue aside from some light age fading), the autographs all show varying degrees of age fading with those of Kennedy and Bouchard the worst off while the Garner signed puck exhibits minor smudging. A fantastic piece sure to enhance any advanced Leafs or HOF collection, a JSA sticker numbered “B89588” is affixed to the photo of the goal and is accompanied by a matching JSA LOA.
