Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs, we have a pair of uncut postcard sheets from the early-1970s. Each sheet features 30 postcards, arranged in 6 rows of 5 cards per row. The first sheet is from 1972-73, and it includes Hall of Famers that were double-printed with Plante, Keon, Ullman and Darryl Sittler. Ron Ellis and Paul Henderson were also double-printed. The second sheet is from 1973-74, and it features Hall of Famers Keon, Salming, Sittler, McDonald, Kelly and Norm Ullman, along with a postcard of retired star Johnny Bower. This sheet also has Keon double-printed, along with secondary images for Sittler and Doug Favell. At 23” x 35”, the sheets are ideal candidates for framing, with wear commensurate with their age and storing. Each sheet exhibits surface wear with the odd scratch, dent or mark, along with edge wear. Each sheet also has a surface crease on the upper left hand side that runs through the first two cards on the 1973-74 example, infringing on one of the Sittler cards along with Jim McKenny, while the crease is more pronounced on the 1972-73 sheet, going through both Henderson cards along with one of the Plante examples. There is also some toning along with a few small stains to the reverse of the 1972-73 sheet, and both will come rolled in a tube.
