Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016

Tom Barrasso’s late-1980s game-worn goalie mask is a fascinating take on the Buffalo Sabres’ logo. Barrasso won the Vezina Trophy in his 1983-84 Calder Trophy rookie season with the Sabres and claimed the Jennings Trophy in his sophomore campaign. He played for Team USA at the 1987 Canada Cup wearing his signature Sabres mask. This circa 1987-88 Barrasso game-worn mask displays the charging buffalo on the forehead, including the raging red eye, and crossed sabres on the chin. There are black marks on the left back portion and various paint chips, particularly on the chin and forehead. The foam padding has come unglued from the inside of the mask and the back plate was changed. A signature-look mask from one of the great Sabres and American goalies in NHL history. Greg Harrison has confirmed that he made this mask for Tom Barrasso.
