Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Exceptionally stunning and desirable New York Rangers jersey was originally obtained from Tim Horton’s widow, Lori, and conjures up the recounting of just how the effective the defender was, even into his forties. He was the oldest d-man on the Maple Leafs’ blueline by 16 years in 1969-70 when he was dealt to the Rangers on March 3rd, suiting up for New York for 15 games down the stretch. Considered hockey’s strongest man, Tim played the full 78-game schedule for the Blueshirts in ‘70-71 and 13 more in the playoffs.
Shocking durene knit beauty here is tagged in the inner left hip by Gerry Crosby, with a size 48 tag also present. Tie-neck style sweater looks to still have the original lace making its way through the six eyelets. The classic “Rangers” in two-tone tackle twill letters is sewn diagonally down the front, with similar individual letters spelling out “Horton” above Tim’s number “3”, stitched to the back. We spot light but definite game use, with a couple of black marks on each sleeve and two blue paint transfers at the right elbow. A total of nine small, barely detectable holes in the blue shoulder yolk are also to mention. Registered with MeiGray (registration number 132494), an LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany, and please take note that this item may be subject to a silent reserve.
