Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
A participant of the infamous "Punch-up in Piestany" at the 1987 World Junior Hockey Championships, Theoren Fleury would compete in 15 NHL seasons throughout his career, with additional time spent with Team Canada after turning pro, including winning a gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. From his lone season in Colorado where he scored 24 points in just 15 regular season games, we have a signed and photo-matched Avalanche jersey worn by the Oxbow native in 1998-99. A Starter Center-Ice label (with “III” handwritten) along with a “56R-8-21” swatch sit affixed to the collar, with NHL and Starter crests over the reverse bottom hem. Styled with a somewhat embossed Avs team crest with embroidered detailing, the mesh V-neck has been accented with textured and layered tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching alternate patches over each shoulder. There is also the “CHS” Columbine High School memorial patch over the upper left sleeve to honour the victims of the 1999 shooting. A COA will accompany from the Avalanche, along with a COR from MeiGray.
Exhibiting a few dark marks over the team crest and a small slit over the lower front, there are also board burns over each sleeve. Fleury has signed the reverse “4” in thin black marker, with the signature displaying well. Regarding the photo-match, an included printed photo has been matched to the black marks in the upper area of the team crest, and to the large diagonal scratch through it.
