Maple Leafs legend Ted “Teeder” Kennedy’s 1947-48 Stanley Cup championship trophy is a rarely-seen personal award that commemorates Toronto’s second of three straight titles in the late-1940s. The 1947-48 Maple Leafs won eight of nine playoff games, including a four-game sweep of the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup final to defend their title. Kennedy led all 1948 playoff scorers with eight goals and 14 points. "National Hockey League Stanley Cup Winners Season 1947-48" and "Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club Ltd., Theodore Kennedy" is engraved on the silver-plate trophy, an ornate replica in the style of Lord Stanley’s original silver bowl that stands 5 1/4" tall and measures 8 1/2" in diameter. “SP Copper” and “Sheffield Reproduction” are among the markings stamped on the bottom of this scarce treasure, which is wonderfully preserved with a small dent on the rim along the base. Originally from the Kennedy estate, it comes with an LOA from the Kennedy family.
Considered one of the greatest players in Maple Leafs history, Kennedy won the Stanley Cup five times while playing his entire NHL career for Toronto from 1942-57. Named captain in 1948, Kennedy won the Hart Trophy in 1954-55. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966, and died at the age of 83 in 2009.
Kennedy played all 60 regular season games and finished third on the 1947-48 Maple Leafs in scoring with 46 points (23 goals, 21 assists), behind only fellow HOFers Syl Apps (53 points) and Max Bentley (46).
