Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Winning Canada’s first Olympic gold medal for ice hockey in 50 years, the 2002 edition of Team Canada put the country back on top of the hockey world on the game’s biggest international stage with a 5-2 win over their neighbours to the south, the United States, in the gold medal game. Having represented his country in international competition on numerous occasions and captaining the red and white at this Olympic Games, scoring six (6) points in five (5) games played, offered here is this pair of sticks issued to Mario Lemieux for the Games that have been team-signed by members of Canada's gold medal winning squad. A pair of Nike Quest 3 model twigs in Team Canada's colours, the lumber displays "M. Lemieux" factory graphics over the upper shaft and "Team Canada" graphics over the entirety of the shaft as well. Having never been taped and both remaining in excellent condition with just light handling wear exhibited, just a couple of very light marks are observed between the pairing while factory stickers still grace the backhand side of both blades.. Having both been signed by approx. twenty (20) members of Team Canada, those that have signed include; Adam Foote, Mario Lemieux, Eric Lindros, Jerome Iginla, Eric Brewer, Martin Brodeur, Scott Niedermayer, Curts Joesph, Al MacInnis, Simon Gagne, Theo Fleury, Ed Belfour, Ryan Smythe, Owen Nolan, Pat Quinn, Michael Peca, Chris Pronger, Joe Nieuwendyk, Joe Sakic and a couple of others. All having signed in silver marker, the autographs largely display well with only a small number sporting bunching, fading or smudging issues. A Classic Auctions LOA will accompany the lot.
