Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
Representing his nation repeatedly throughout his HOF career, Steve Yzerman first donned the mighty maple leaf as a World Junior in 1983, with the gold medal won at the 2002 Winter Olympics his greatest international success. The following Olympiad would see Wayne Gretzky announce that no player would wear Yzerman’s #19 jersey at the 2006 Winter Olympics. From the gold medal-winning 2002 Games in Salt Lake City, we have a signed and photo-matched Team Canada practice jersey worn by the legendary superstar. A sewn-down Nike label with “54” sizing is affixed, with an embroidered swoosh logo over the front of the collar. Featuring a tackle twill Hockey Canada team crest, “19” appears over the verso in single white twill with “Yzerman” across the upper reverse in matching material. An LOA from Hockey Canada will accompany.
The captain has added a large and flowing black marker signature within the reverse “9”, and it display beautifully. The jersey itself sports wear and marks over the front and sleeves, with burn marks over the left shoulder. An included numeric image from September 4, 2001 of Yzerman at the Canadian Olympic hockey team training camp in Calgary has been matched to the big black mark on the left shoulder.
