Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The surprise hero of the 1983-84 Montreal Canadiens’ unexpected playoff run, goalie Steve Penney wore this Nova Scotia Voyageurs during the AHL regular season before his late-season call-up to the NHL by the Habs. Penney had three shutouts while winning nine of 15 playoff games with Montreal, which won the first two games of the conference final before being eliminated by the Islanders dynasty. His 1983-84 Voyageurs game-worn jersey has the team logo patch on the right shoulder and the Maska logo embroidered on the right rear hem. No tagging remains in the neck; this minor league beauty measures out to approximately a size 52. Game wear includes black marks on the front and left sleeve.
More game wear shows in red goalpost paint transfer on the white stripes on the back of the right sleeve. There is a reddish-brown stain on the upper white stripe on the front to the right of the top portion of the script “S” in the two-tone double twill “Nova Scotia” sewn on the front featuring red thread accents.
