Selected by the Calgary Flames 25th overall at the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, Stephane Matteau dressed for six different clubs during his career, with his shining moments occurring in the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the New Jersey Devils, scoring twice in overtime in the series. This San Jose Sharks jersey was worn by the Rouyn-Noranda native in 1997-98, his first of five seasons spent in the Bay Area. Center Ice and a partially detached Nike label with a “58” sizing designation is affixed to the collar, with embroidered NHL and Nike crests over the reverse hem. Styled with an embossed and textured Sharks team crest with embroidered detailing, mesh sides that run from the bottom hem to beneath the armpit have also been utilized along with tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with “Matteau” across the affixed matching nameplate in single layer white twill letters. Game-use is seen throughout the body and sleeves of the jersey, with the front exhibiting a pair of snags at the neck, a dark black stick mark to the lower half and board burns to the team crest. The satin material of the sleeves and bottom stripe show pilling throughout with the sleeves also having board burns at each elbow with one on the right sleeve becoming a small unrepaired hole. Heavy pilling is also seen on the interior at each elbow.
