The first Slovak-born player to win the Stanley Cup, doing so with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1961, Stan Mikita is generally recognized as the best centre of the 1960s and played his entire 1394 game National Hockey League career with the Black Hawks in Chicago between 1958-59 and 1979-80. The Art Ross Trophy winner as the NHL's leading scorer in 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968, with Hart Memorial Trophy's coming in 1967 and 1968 as well, Mikita would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 and was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history during the league's centennial year of 2017. Offered here, we present this Mikita game stick that dates from the mid-to-late-1960s and has been signed by its original owner. A Northland Custom Pro "Glass Fused" model with "Mikita" stamped over the shaft, additional stamps from team equipment supplier, Gunzo's, appears over both sides of the upper shaft as well, along with stamps reading "Northland Ski Mfg". Displaying a black tape job over both the handle/knob and blade of the stick, it should be noted that neither style matches up with what Mikita used during his career but everything else about the stick appears proper. For this reason, we are offering this vintage lumber example as a game stick only and not giving it a "game-used" title. Displaying wear via numerous marks and abrasions throughout the length of the shaft as well as light wear to the underside of the blade/heel and tears to the bottom edge of the blade tape, Mikita has signed over the forehand side of the shaft with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue.
