Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Always jaw-dropping are paintings done by renowned sports artist Dewitt “Tex” Coulter, a former football star lineman with the New York Giants and Montreal Alouettes, with this masterpiece paying tribute to three Chicago Black Hawk players who copped NHL awards in 1963-64. Kenny Wharram was awarded the Lady Byng Trophy for gentlemanly conduct, Pierre Pilote won his second of three straight Norris trophies as the NHL’s top defenceman and Stan Mikita captured his first of four Art Ross trophies as scoring champ. Coulter’s work, which often appeared on the covers of various sports magazines and Montreal Forum programs, was also used for popular Montreal Canadiens calendars. This painting appeared on a page of the ‘64-65 Habs calendar and features Coulter’s trademark “TEX” signature, framed to full dimensions of approx. 17 ½” x 22 ½”.
No issues for the painting or frame.
