A product of the Medicine Hat Tigers who was drafted 1110th overall by the Hartford Whalers at the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, Shane Churla would play a total of 488 games in the National Hockey League over the course of his career, suiting up for six (6) different clubs and becoming the NHL record holder for highest average penalty minutes per game played. From his swan song season of 1996-97, offered here is this jersey worn by Churla as a member of the New York Rangers. Made by Starter, size “56-R”, Starter and "Center Ice Authentic Collection” labeling are affixed to the inner collar with the size swatch having had Churla's "22" hand written in black marker ink while both the Starter and NHL shield logos are embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the garment with “Rangers” going diagonally down the chest in drop shadow red-over-white tackle twill letters, the sleeves and verso have been accented with Churla's number “22” in matching style numerals with “ Churla” spelt out in matching style once again across the affixed matching arched nameplate. Exhibiting just light game-wear, board burns are present over both sleeves, heaviest on the right one, as well as the front hem while light stick marks are found over the left sleeve and lower front as well. With the under seams of both sleeves having been cut to Churla's liking, a Rangers team tag serial numbered "#-037" by New York's equipment manager, Mike Folga, is found sewn inside the reverse hem.
