Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Amazing and truly rare example of a vintage one-piece wooden shinny stick used in the on-ice game played on skates with a ball which was a precursor to ice hockey. These "bandies" were fashioned from the lower branches of pollarded willow trees which grew in a curve upwards providing a perfect shape for a one-piece stick. The shinny stick offered here dates back to around the turn of the century and was likely used by a right-handed shooter judging by the face of the blade that has been whittled flat. Solid one-piece wood stick measures roughly 41 inches from top to tip with clear wear from game use along the heel of the blade.
