Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
Extremely scarce green durene uniform of the Western Interprovincial Football Union’s Saskatchewan Roughriders used circa 1956 to 1958. The Riders have a long and storied history and a base of devoted fans that go back generations. This example may have been worn by CFL Hall-of-Famer Martin Ruby, who took the field sporting the number 63 in single-layer white tackle twill in 1956 and 1957. A lesser skilled player wore the style in 1958 after Ruby’s departure and later years would see the Roughriders wearing a similar style but with numbers added high up on the arms. Made by Sand Knit with the maker’s label and size 48 fly tag on the crotch piece, the heavy knit jersey shows loads of wear with at least 23 stitched repairs. Long-sleeve style with a six-button crotch. Ruby, an offensive and defensive tackle who was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 1974, was recognized for his 7 season career in Saskatchewan but also played previously in the United States for the AAFC Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Yankees and the NFL New York Yanks.
