Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Sensational pieces of western Canadian hockey history are these gorgeous real photo postcards capturing members of the Regina Capitals, with Hall-of-Famers Dick Irvin, Barney Stanley and George Hay leading the way. The latter is identified as "Reg.", while Irvin's surname is mistakenly spelled "Irwin", with all "N"s printed backwards throughout(!). Others who also saw NHL action are Rabbit McVeigh, Art Gagne, Duke Dukowski ("Dutkowski) and Amby Moran. The full-body poses offer a terrific look at period uniforms and equipment, with a horizontal kneeling shot of goalie Red McCusker also noteworthy. Jack Asseltine and Abbie Newell complete the lineup, with the latter card the only example exhibiting a (small peripheral) crease, with the postcards measuring 3-1/2" by 5-1/2". Joining the postcard backs is a line across the top which reads "Published by the Rex Photo Supply Regina." The image of legendary hockey figure Dick Irvin is especially spellbinding, contributing to a special and desirable ensemble.
