Suiting up in a total of 1101 National Hockey League games over the course of a career that spanned from 1960-61 to 1978-79, Pit Martin would register 324 goals and 485 assists for 809 points over that time, donning the uniforms of the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Chicago Black Hawks and Vancouver Canucks to the tune of seventeen (17) seasons. Offered here, we present this Black Hawks jersey worn by Martin during the 1976-77 campaign. A heavy bright red durene knit garment made by Wilson, brand tagging displaying a size "42" designation is affixed to the inner collar while a "Gunzo's" label is found below it in the same area. A cross-collar variation as opposed to the v-neck that was reintroduced by the team during the same season as well, the front of the jersey is decorated with Chicago's famed Indigenous head team crest that features beautifully embroidered details throughout while matching tomahawk alternate logos, once again sporting similar chain-stitched details throughout their entirety, have been placed over both shoulders. Of note, some damage also appears over the left breast that could be from the removal of the captain's "C" though this is unconfirmed. Chicago is listed as having used a trio of captain's during the season including Stan Mikita, Keith Magnusson and Martin. Having had Martin's number "7" sewn to the sleeves and verso in white-over-black dual layer tackle twill numerals, no name appears over the upper reverse as this was the last season Chicago didn't have nameplates. Utilizing a garter style fight strap on the interior that is sewn through the bottom of the "7" on the reverse, a swatch of twill with "76" chain stitched into it is sewn inside the right hip to indicate season. Additionally, with Chicago having used a mix of cross-collar and v-neck jerseys jerseys during the year, it is known through research that only the cross-collar jerseys have had a year swatch sewn to the inside of them while the v-necks did not. Exhibiting good game-use, dark stick marks are observed over the front, reverse and both sleeves while fabric runs and small unrepaired holes are present over both sleeves and the front as well. With additional battle scars seen via light aboard burns to both sleeves, a white board paint transfer near the right cuff and some pilling on the interior, a total of seven (7) team repairs are observed, split between the two (2) shoulders.
