Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Donning the blue and white of his native Finland on numerous occasions throughout his storied career, Pekka Rinne would once again answer the call for his country by suiting up at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey before the start of the 2016-17 NHL campaign. Offered here, and hailing from the international best-on-best affair, is this blocker and glove set worn by Rinne during the tournament. Both CCM Premier model gloves that have had "Rinne" identifiers embroidered into them via blue thread, both pieces of equipment are done up in Finland's familiar white and blue colours. Sporting a blue skate lace pocket in the glove and displaying CCM logos over the face of each piece, both gloves remain in excellent condition and display with light-to-moderate wear, consistent with what is seen on pieces from these international tournaments, via puck marks and paint transfers from posts as well as some minor material loss and fraying around the edges. Additionally, the blocker palm remains soft and free of any holes. With all the strapping and lacing in good condition and fully functional, both gloves have been photo-matched with Getty Image #610516042 (September 20th, 2016 vs Team Sweden) to various pucks marks seen decorating each piece.
