Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez had a season for the ages with the Boston Red Sox when he won the second of his three Cy Young Awards in 1999. Martinez averaged an astounding 13.2 strikeouts per 9 innings pitched while going 23-4 with a 2.07 ERA. This 1999 American League Cy Young Award display plaque is a replica that was used for display/advertising purposes, and though it is not Martinez's personal award, it remains an awesome display piece. The black lacquered wooden plaque measures 16 1/2" x 13 1/4 and the award weighs a substantial 11 pounds. There is some wear and smoothing to the relief lettering on the bottom portion of the plaque on this otherwise very nicely preserved award.
The most pronounced wear in the lettering is along the upper portion of the line that reads “The Oustanding” at the bottom.
