Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

HOF defenseman Paul Coffey’s photo-matched 1990-91 Penguins signed game-used gloves are from Pittsburgh’s first Stanley Cup season. These Jofa 686 model gloves with “77” written in black marker inside the cuffs of both were heavily spray painted to disguise the maker, probably due to advertising or contractual restrictions. Coffey signed each glove, adding the “Stanley Cup 91” annotation to the right glove. They are photo-matched by the scuff on the wrist roll of the left glove above the thumb and the area with less paint at the top to a wire photo dated “4/1/91” just prior to the start of the playoffs, and were most likely worn by Coffey during the playoffs.
Game use also shows in scuffs to the front and fingers and wear on the hole-free palms.
