Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

Hall of Fame defenseman Paul Coffey’s scarce 1988-89 Pittsburgh Penguins game-worn pre-season jersey is from the same pre-season set as the photo-matched Mario Lemieux jersey offered in this auction. Coffey was on the verge of a second season in Pittsburgh that would see him score 30 goals, 83 assists and 113 points when he wore this Ultrafil jersey done with the 1987-88 style. The skating penguin logo, alternate captain’s “A” on the left breast, number “77” on the back and both sleeves and surname letters on the nameplate are all heat-screened vinyl. Game wear includes a slashing black mark on the left front tail, board burns and black marks on the sleeves and a black mark on the left rear tail.
The yellow vinyl of the “77” on the back has partially let go from its adhesive and curled back a little at the edges. There is a small portion of loss to the yellow vinyl from a tear on the bottom left of the second “7” on the right.
Ultrafil fly tag is in the back of the collar and the embroidered CCM logo sits on the right rear hem.
