Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
One of early hockey’s most storied franchises, the Ottawa Hockey Club began life in 1883, after founding members witnessed the exciting sport exhibited at the Montreal Winter Carnival that spring. The Generals, as they were first known, would control the Stanley Cup for three consecutive seasons thus becoming the Silver Seven, until finally upset by the Montreal Wanderers in the spring of 1906. We have a postcard featuring the Ottawa Silver Seven that originates from that very time period. The standard 3 ½” x 5 ½”, the team is pictured in full colour, with each player listed in period fountain pen along the right hand side including HOF legends Frank McGee, Rat Westwick, Harvey Pulford, Alfie Smith and Billy Gilmour.
WEB ONLY - Additional text on the reverse mentions Ottawa holding the Cup for three years, with a postmark of April 12th 1906. With just some toning, surface and corner wear, the postcard remains in pleasing condition.
