One of the sport’s most fabled cities, Ottawa has long been a hotbed for hockey, with the Senators that represented the nation’s capital in the late-1800s/early-1900s one of the most successful and storied clubs in history. Since rekindling the traditionally rich moniker of the club in the early-1990s, the Senators have won four Division championships, with an appearance in the 2007 Stanley Cup finals. This lot contains a great Senators postcard and team card collection of approx 424, ranging from the first season in 1992-93, to 2007-08, with approx 10 examples signed. The breakdown for the items by year is as follows. First, 1992-93 – 27 blank-backed Colonial postcards including 2 signed (Baker and Turgeon), 1993-94 – 26 program inserts including 1 signed, including Turgeon, Ruzicka, Yashin (signed), Daigle and others, 1994-95 – 28 Bell Mobility team cards including 1 signed, with Turgeon, Beaupre (signed), Daigle, Marsh and others, 1995-96 – 26 team cards including Yashin, Straka, Chorske, Alfredsson (rookie) and others, 1996-97 – 30 Pizza Hut team cards including Redden, Duchesne, Bonk, Alfredsson and others, 1997-98 – 27 team cards, 29 team cards, 1997-98 – 3 program inserts with 2 signed, 1999-00 – 27 team cards including 1 signed (Prospal), 2000-01 – 28 team cards including 1 signed (Prospal), 2001-02 – 28 team cards including Chara (first season in Ottawa), 2002-03 – 34 team cards including 1 signed (Spezza, rookie), 2003-04 – 26 team cards, 2005-06 – 29 team cards, 2006-07 – 27 team cards, 2007-08 – 29 team cards. The misc items include a small #1 draft card signed by Daigle along with a few Sens postcards. As an added bonus, representing the original Senators franchise, we have a Joe Shields Sens program insert, a 1926-27 Hands Studio photo of Ed Gorman (8” x 10”) and two original photos of 1920s Sens manager and treasurer David Gill (one is 4” x 6” with a small edge tear, the other, 7” x 10” with the original Topley Ottawa presentation folder, with moderate wear to each). The majority of the postcards/team cards in the collection are in beautiful condition with just light handling wear.
