Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020

Registering 83 points which included 36 wins, the Montreal Canadiens would finish the 1964-65 regular season behind Gordie Howe and the Detroit Red Wings, with Claude Provost’s 64 points leading the club. The Habs would take out traditional rivals the Toronto Maple Leafs in six games before defeating Bobby Hull and the Chicago Black Hawks in a hard-fought, seven-game Finals. This original 1965 Stanley Cup championship trophy was produced by Boffey, and is similar to the examples awarded to each member of the Montreal Canadiens by the NHL in a tradition dating back to 1958. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with brown felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved in two rows beneath the team executives, with “Club de Hockey Canadien” and “1964-65” engraved above.
While we are unaware of the original recipient of this majestic Stanley Cup championship trophy, it features the correct construction and period details of the examples awarded in 1964-65. Exhibiting heavy surface oxidation throughout, there are no dents or major scratches visible, with the base which shows little wear replaced at some point.
