One of the modern era’s most talented blueliners, Nicklas Lidstrom became the first European-born-and-trained captain of a Stanley Cup championship team, with a dozen All-Star Game appearances made from 1996 to 2011. The Hall of Fame Swede can also claim an amazing seven James Norris trophies, with the Conn Smythe earned as the most valuable player during the 2002 Stanley Cup playoffs. This important photo-matched Red Wings alternate captain’s jersey was worn by the Krylbo native during the 2001-02 Stanley Cup finals! A label with “52” sizing is affixed to the collar beneath a screened-on “1”, with an original point-of-sale tag from the Red Wings pro shop ($5,250.00) along with embroidered NHL and KOHO patches over the reverse hem and back neckline. Featuring a gorgeous winged-wheel team crest, “5” appears over the sleeves and verso in single white twill, with the 2002 Stanley Cup crest over the right breast. Hailing from the Michael Wexler collection, the team patch denoting the garment as a “Playoff Set” example resides on the inside hem, with this Stanley Cup finals sweater ready to add to any advanced Swedish, Hall of Fame or Motor City collection.
Sporting a few dark marks over the front band, there are a few additional marks along with board burns and red paint transfer over the left sleeve, with team repairs situated on the left (1) and right (4) sleeves. Getty Image #763180 from June 8, 2002 (Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals) has been matched to the long red mark below the "5" on the left sleeve, to the mark on the hem on the same side (in the white section over red thread lines) and to the black marks in the middle of the white band on the lower front of the jersey. Getty Image #763072, also from June 8, has been matched to the long red and black marks near the "5" on the left sleeve, and to the diagonal black marks on the upper portion of the reverse “5”.
