Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021

The 1965 Memorial Cup champion Niagara Falls Flyers had future NHL talent galore! HOFer Bernie Parent teamed up with future Philadelphia teammate Doug Favell in goal and Gilles Marotte, Rick Ley and Barry Wilkins anchored the defense. Leading scorer Jean Pronovost and 1968 Calder Trophy winner Derek Sanderson led a forward contingent along with Bill Goldsworthy, Don Marcotte, Jim Lorentz and Rosaire Paiement. This Flyers 1965 Memorial Cup Champions canvas and knit team jacket with gorgeous chenille crests was most likely issued to a Niagara Falls player. The magnificent crest on the left breast says it all, “Junior Canadian Championship” above an image of the Memorial Cup with “1965 Niagara Falls Flyers” spelled out on the base.
Two more beautiful chenille crests are on the sleeves. The Flyers’ NF-Hub Boston Bruins-style crest is sewn on the left sleeve and a Canadian Maple Leaf and British Union Jack crossed-flags patch is on the right. Craft of Canada tagging on the lining in the back of the neck has what appears to be a remnant of a no longer present flag tag. No size is indicated, we measure it to be approximately a size 44. Definitely smaller than modern jackets. Some of the buttons on the jacket have been reattached while one button has been changed. There are some holes in the knit waistband, sleeve cuffs and collar, a diagonal black mark on the back, and reddish-brown stains on the back of the lower right sleeve that do not diminish the display of this 56-year-old championship jacket.
