The "brainchild" of NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue in 1989 as a spring development league, The World League of American Football was formed after the NFL had played popular American Bowls in London's Wembley Stadium and elsewhere since 1986. Operating under a few different names during their existence, the league ran from 1991 to 2007, and had included teams such as the Amsterdam Admirals, Frankfurt Galaxy and Barcelona Dragons. This lot contains three different game-worn WLAF helmets, including examples for the Galaxy, Admirals and the Rhein Fire.
First, we have the Frankfurt Galaxy helmet game-worn by #38. With intact Riddell neck guard and manufacturer’s stickers present, the helmet retains its interior padding and strapping. Featuring a full face mask, the helmet showcases matching “Galaxy” logos on both sides. In very good condition, the helmet exhibits good game-use, with both team decals showing wear including areas where they have bubbled up. Next, we have the Rhein Fire helmet game-worn by #29.
