Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Foretelling his second bout with George Chuvalo which would occur in 1972, we have a photo signed by Muhammad Ali, with this specimen sporting a desirable and lengthy inscription. At 8” x 10” and picturing a black and white full body pose of the champ, Ali has signed vertically in green ballpoint, referencing his fight with Chuvalo that occurred 8 months prior, with the inscription reading in full, “To my friend Irving Ungerman from Muhammad Ali Nov 14 1966 – Keep Chuvalo in shape, we may meet again”. A businessman, boxing promoter and manager, Ungerman would be the first individual enshrined in the Canadian Boxing Hall of Fame. A JSA LOA will accompany this desirable signed photo.
The photo exhibits considerably heavy surface wear, with a tear over the bottom left corner along with material loss, with a pair of staple holes visible over the middle right border. There is also bleeding to the signature/inscription, with this along with the damage occurring from soaking in water to remove the photo from being stuck to glass.
