The stage for Canadiens icons Maurice “Rocket” Richard, Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur and Patrick Roy, the Montreal Forum, the Habs and the Molson family have had a long connection, with the famous brewery helping to fund a lot of the team’s record haul of 24 Stanley Cups. The 14”-wide Forum red single seat with No. “2” on its 16 3/8” wide wood back-rest was consigned by a top Molson Brewery executive who had it gifted to him by a member of the company’s board of directors, a Molson family member. Owned by Molson Brewery, it was used by important company executives for Canadiens games and other events at the venerable arena that was home to the team from 1924-96.
The Canadiens CH logo decal is affixed to the seat back, which measures 16 3/8" wide and has “2” stencil-painted in the middle of the top edge. Fully functional, the padded red seat is 14” wide and its metal bottom displays the various dents and paint loss it accumulated over the course of its many years of service from one of the top vantage points in the famous Montreal Forum. The chair is also free-standing, with 24” metal runners on each side as a base. The Canadiens were owned by members of the Molson family from Sept. 1957 until the end of 1971. Molson Breweries of Canada Ltd. purchased the Canadiens on August 4, 1978 and they owned the team when the final game was played at the Forum on March 11, 1996.
