Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2022

Recognized as the genesis of the modern era of Canadian football, the 1954 CFL season witnessed a strong Montreal Alouettes club go 11-3 throughout the year and never lose two contests in a row. The Als would defeat Hamilton in the best-of-three Eastern Final, and lose by just a single point to the Edmonton Eskimos in the Grey Cup. This football has been team-signed by the 1954 Grey Cup finalist Montreal Alouettes. A solid white Spalding Official Inter-Collegiate model, “Alouettes” has been attractively painted within a panel in team colours, with “1954” beneath. Approx 28 have signed, including HOFers Sam Etcheverry, Bruce Coulter, Tom Hugo, Herb Trawick and Hal Patterson, along with Alex Webster, Bill Bewley, Chuck Hunsinger, Charlie Baille, Doug McNichol, Herb Capozzi, Jacques Belec, Jim Miller, John Blaichner, Joe Pedicelli, Jim Mitchener, Jerry Hogan, Juan Sheridan, Jim Staton, Joey Pal, Larry Grigg, Marty Martiniello, Phil Adrian, Ray Poole, Ray Cicia, Tex Coulter, Tom Moran and Ted Elsby. The ballpoint signatures display well with some minor darkening of the ball, with the ball mostly deflated (the ball will hold air briefly). We should also that according to our consignor, rumours exist that white balls were used during the era by the CFL for night games to improve visibility.
