Captivating miniature replica of the Hart Memorial Trophy
commemorates Ranger goalie Chuck Rayner’s MVP season of 1949-50 and
features an explanatory engraved metal plate on the six-sided 3-inch
high wooden base. It reads “Chuck Rayner 1949-50 - Presented by New
York Rangers - March 15, 1989.” A wonderful color 8” by 10” photo of
Rayner and three other smiling Ranger goalie greats includes Gump
Worsley, Gilles Villemure and Eddie Giacomin, who also received
commemorative awards on the special night. The silver-plated
miniature of one of hockey’s most important individual awards stands
14” high and features golden flames which engulf the crown, the
latter engraved “Hart Memorial Trophy - Presented to the National
Hockey League as its Most Valuable Player Award.” Playing in front
of consistently weak teams over the years, Rayner was at times
spectacular in getting the New Yorkers into the playoffs in ‘49-50,
coming oh so close to drinking from Lord Stanley’s precious trophy,
the Red Wings winning games six and seven of the finals to douse the
Rangers’ dreams. In excellent condition and representing Chuck
Rayner’s most memorable season, the terrific trophy will come with an
LOA from the Rayner family.
